General Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any height restrictions for my fence?
Building codes within the City of Kokomo limit the height of a fence to 7’ high. If you are outside the city limits, check with your local authorities to determine if there are any restrictions in front or back of the home.

.
Do I need to have my underground utilities marked before the fence is installed?
We will take care of having all Indiana public underground utilities marked before coming to the jobsite to start digging. However, you are responsible for contacting the utility company to mark any private lines installed on your property.

Do you install fences during the winter?
While it becomes more difficult, we do continue to install fences throughout the winter, depending on the depth of the snow and frost line.

Chain Link Frequently Asked Questions

Are all chain link fences the same?
No. Chain link is a component fence system, consisting primarily of three basic elements: fabric, framework, and fittings. The critical issue is how these components are combined. Chain link is available in a wide range of weights (or gauges) and coatings. The most common coating is zinc (galvanized) but chain-link is also available in other coatings such as aluminim or vinyl and polyester color coatings that enhance landscaping, blending naturally with trees, shrubs, and bushes. top

Do all chain link fences stand up to residential wear-and-tear?
Not necessarily. A light system may bend easily due to even the most common household occurrences, such as a person climbing or sitting on it, a heavy wind blowing debris against it, or a dog jumping against it. Inferior coatings may allow the fence to rust prematurely. top

Do local building codes ensure that I will get a good quality fence?
Building codes for chain link fence may not exist in your locale and many only address issues of location, height, or theoretical wind load requirements for strength. Few codes actually define the material requirements of the fence or factor in the many variables relating to fencing for your home. top

What are the advantages of chain link?
Chain link protects and beautifies property, is long-lasting, maintenance-free, yet economical. A chain link fence also provides security without obstructing views, blends well with landscaping, and controls pets. top

Can I install this fence myself?
We can provide you with a step-by-step installation booklet or install the fence for you.

Vinyl Fencing Frequently Asked Questions

How long has vinyl fence been around?
Vinyl fencing has been available since 1984 ( over 15 years). It is the fastest growing product in the fencing industry with sustained annual growth at 30% plus. top

How strong is it?
It has five times the tensile strength of wood and four times the flexibility. It flexes under load making it strong enough to safely hold cattle and horses. Our manufacturers use impact modifiers to make our fence strong and forgiving for horses and riders as well as other farm animals.
top

Can I install it myself?
If you can use a level, a tape measure, a post hole digger and a sting line- and are willing to take the time to do the job right- you can probably do the job yourself. For the larger jobs some people like to hire a professional for the hole drilling or the entire job. top

Can I put a hot wire on it?
Yes you can. The entire vinyl post is an insulator which means you won't need any special hardware. All you have to do is drill a hole in the posts and string the wire through. You should probably use a wire that is resistant to rust and corrosion. top

How does it compare to wood?
It is stronger, lasts much longer, safer, looks better, and costs much less over time. It can cost the same as or more than wood initially depending local wood prices, type of wood and style of fence or deck but over it's life it is about one third of the cost. top

How do you set the posts?
The posts are set in concrete in the ground from 24 to 36 inches deep and in some cases cement is put inside the posts with re-bar for exceptional strength. (This is not recommended for livestock because it makes it too strong.) top

Can I paint it?
Paint doesn't adhere well to the surface which is good in the case of graffiti but bad if you like to paint things. The color of the vinyl goes all the way through so it can't be scratched or chipped off which means it will never need to be painted.
top

Will it discolor or become brittle over time?
It is warranted by the factory for your lifetime to never do that. We use a U.V.inhibitor called titanium dioxide at a rate of 10 parts per hundred which creates a solar barrier equivalent to a sun block of 38 so the sun can't break it down. top
